Robotic highways project

The Robotic highways project exists to improve accurate forecasting. It will increase farm productivity packhouse and farm labour, whilst reducing fruit waste and fungicide use and ultimately eliminating fossil fuel use.

How the process works

Refrigeration locks in flavour

We cool each pallet individually using Fromfoid cooling pods which feature patented designs, to increase chilling and energy efficiencies. Each product has a set cooling time dependent on its arrival temperature. There is an auto-off function once the process is complete, meaning that we never cool longer than we need to, saving energy and cooling our fruit at an average of 50% faster than previously.

Berry Gardens is wholly owned and run by growers. Berry Gardens provides an outstanding service to ensure a seamless supply. Clock House Farm is responsible for over 20% of the grower group produce – with Berry Gardens’ Packing facility (the UK’s largest) strategically positioned on Clock House Farm to enable maximum efficiency of fresh fruit delivery.

Heated production

Our heat source is an innovative form of renewable energy – derived from the River Medway. We use a heat pump to remove one to two degrees from a small proportion of the river water to achieve pipe temperature in the greenhouse of up to 50 degrees.
